Endorsement
From Rep. Chris Jeter, September 2026

The Indiana Professional Fire Fighters PAC has endorsed my re-election in House District 88 for the November 3 general election.

The troopers of the Indiana State Police Alliance endorsed this campaign. Now Indiana’s professional fire fighters, paramedics and EMTs have done the same. I did not take either one for granted, and I am not going to pretend they are the same endorsement.

When you dial 911, the people who show up fall into two groups. One comes because something was done to you. The other comes because something happened to you. A wreck on I-69. A house fire in McCordsville. A grandfather who stops breathing at the dinner table on a Sunday.

“Nobody calls 911 on their best day.”

Rep. Chris Jeter, House District 88

Nobody calls 911 on their best day. Fire fighters and medics walk into the worst hour of a family’s life, do the work, and then go do it again for the next family. They are not asking for much in return. Mostly they are asking that the people making decisions at the Statehouse actually understand what the job costs.

I want to be straight about what this endorsement is built on, because their letter is straight about it. They did not hand me a scorecard. Here is what they wrote:

“Through our discussions with you, we know that you are willing to listen thoughtfully and carefully consider issues that impact the delivery of Fire and Emergency Medical Services and the well-being of our members. We know that you endeavor to represent your constituents in the same manner.”

Indiana Professional Fire Fighters PAC, endorsement letter

That is a fair description of where we are. It is an endorsement built on access and on listening, and I would rather earn it that way than be handed it for a press release. The work of turning those conversations into policy is ahead of us, not behind us, and I intend to do it.

What I can point to is that I did not start listening to Indiana’s fire service the week an endorsement was available. That record is below.

Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) represents Indiana House District 88, which includes portions of Hancock, Hamilton, Madison and Marion counties. He chairs the House Judiciary Committee and co-chairs the Bail and Release Review Commission.

The record behind this endorsement

Every date and vote below comes from the Indiana General Assembly’s own records.

He honored Indiana’s fire fighters on the House floor in 2025, twice

Two resolutions, one session

  • House Resolution 11 (2025), celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana, co-authored by Rep. Jeter and adopted January 30, 2025. That is the same statewide organization the endorsing PAC is affiliated with.
  • House Concurrent Resolution 10 (2025), honoring Chief Steven Orusa on his retirement from the Fishers Fire Department, co-authored by Rep. Jeter, adopted by the House January 13, 2025 and by the Senate January 21, 2025.

Resolutions do not carry the force of law, and nobody should pretend otherwise. What they do show is who a legislator makes time for. Both of these came in the same session, one for the fire fighters’ statewide organization and one for a fire chief in his own district.

On broader public safety, laws rather than resolutions

Enacted

  • House Bill 1258 (2026), authored by Rep. Jeter. Revised and consolidated Indiana’s definition of a crime of violence. Passed the House 92 to 0 with Rep. Jeter voting yes, signed March 4, 2026, now Public Law 85-2026.
  • Senate Bill 19 (2022), carried in the House by Rep. Jeter. Strengthened the sentence enhancement that applies when a person points or discharges a firearm at a police officer. Passed the House 92 to 0 with Rep. Jeter voting yes, now Public Law 4-2022.
  • Senate Joint Resolution 1, the bail amendment, sponsored in the House by Rep. Jeter in both 2023 and 2026, the two separately elected General Assemblies Indiana requires before an amendment can reach voters. It is on the November 2026 ballot as Public Question 1.

He also chairs the House Judiciary Committee and co-chairs the Bail and Release Review Commission, the two seats where most public safety legislation in Indiana has to pass through.

Common questions about this endorsement

What is the Indiana Professional Fire Fighters PAC?

It is the political action committee affiliated with the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana. It is funded by voluntary contributions from members, and it endorses and supports candidates based on their positions on fire and emergency medical services issues.

Did a fire department endorse Chris Jeter?

No. Fire departments are units of local government and do not endorse candidates for office. Which public safety organizations have endorsed Chris Jeter in 2026?

Two so far. The Indiana State Police Alliance, which represents Indiana State Police troopers, and the Indiana Professional Fire Fighters PAC, affiliated with the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana.

Who represents Indiana House District 88?

Rep. Chris Jeter, a Republican from Fishers. The district includes portions of Hancock, Hamilton, Madison and Marion counties. He chairs the House Judiciary Committee, co-chairs the Bail and Release Review Commission, and is a practicing attorney and Navy JAG veteran of the Iraq War.
